As the moisture inside the kernel turns into steam during the popping process, the hull of the mushroom popcorn stays intact, causing the kernel to expand out of one side into a round mushroom shape.
Compared to Other Popcorn
This popcorn is not hulless like our varieties. It does not have as much flavor as its counterparts, but it is perfect for coatings, glazes, or seasonings.
Popping Tips
To achieve its recognizable shape, Mushroom Popcorn should be popped at a higher temperature, but can be popped using traditional popping methods. This creates more mushroom-shaped kernels and leaves less unpopped corn.
