Epipremnum amplissimum – Elegant Foliage and Care Guide

Epipremnum amplissimum Engl. is a stunning, fast-growing tropical climber admired for its elongated, lance-shaped leaves with a subtle silver sheen. Native to Southeast Asia and Australia, this resilient plant thrives in a variety of indoor conditions, making it a fantastic choice for plant lovers seeking an easy-care yet visually striking species. With proper support, it develops into an impressive trailing or climbing plant.

Why Choose Epipremnum amplissimum?

  • Sleek, silver-tinged foliage: Narrow, lanceolate leaves with a metallic sheen.
  • Low-maintenance climber: Adapts well to both trailing and climbing growth habits.
  • Resilient and adaptable: Thrives in a range of indoor conditions with minimal care.

Key Growth Facts

  • Native Habitat: Found in the tropical forests of Southeast Asia and Australia.
  • Size and Growth: Can grow up to 3 meters when supported, with leaves elongating as the plant matures.
  • Growth Habit: Vigorous, trailing or climbing vine that benefits from a moss pole or trellis.
  • Toxicity: Contains calcium oxalate crystals, which are toxic if ingested.

How to Care for Epipremnum amplissimum

  • Placement: Prefers a bright, indirect light location but tolerates lower light.
  • Light Requirements: Best in filtered light; too much direct sun may scorch the leaves.
  • Watering Routine: Allow the top few centimeters of soil to dry out before watering.
  • Humidity Needs: Prefers moderate to high humidity but adapts to average indoor levels.
  • Ideal Temperature: Thrives in temperatures between 18°C-28°C.
  • Soil Mix: Well-draining mix with orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir.
  • Repotting Tips: Repot every 1-2 years to refresh soil and encourage growth.
  • Fertilizing: Use a diluted liquid fertilizer every four weeks during the growing season.
  • Propagation: Easily propagated through stem cuttings placed in water or soil.
  • Hydroponic Suitability: Adapts well to semi-hydroponic setups.
  • Pruning Advice: Trim leggy vines to promote bushier growth.

Common Issues and Solutions

  • Pests: Occasionally affected by spider mites or mealybugs; treat with neem oil, or use beneficial insects.
  • Yellowing Leaves: Often due to overwatering – allow soil to dry out more between waterings.
  • Slow Growth: Low light or lack of nutrients may cause sluggish development.

Additional Growing Tips

Providing vertical support, such as a moss pole, will encourage larger leaf development and a more structured growth habit. Regular pruning helps maintain a compact and bushy appearance.

What’s in the Name?

The genus Epipremnum comes from Greek, meaning “upon the trunk,” referencing its natural epiphytic growth habit. The species name amplissimum translates to "very large," referring to its long, elegant leaves.

Great chew toy for dogs
Color: Yellow Nylon Swiss Cheese Wedge
Very suitable toy for dogs it’s too resistant. The material is good and very safe. The size is perfect for a larger dog. They love to chew on it.

WARNING - EXTREMELY SHARP AREAS
Color: Yellow Nylon Corn on the Cob, Color: Yellow Nylon Corn on the Cob
UPDATE: The 2nd one I ordered was exactly the same with the sharp parts in the same areas as the first one. I cannot stress enough that a few points are sharp enough to cut or badly scratch. So if you’re planning on putting some food on it so your pup can lick, this is not the product you want! This could still scratch or cut the gums if used as a chew toy too though. I was thinking about sanding the sharp points but then I have no idea if that exposes any chemicals somehow? Really wanted this to work out! I took this corn on the cob toy out of the plastic to wash it and before I even got to the sink I realized there were several areas that are super sharp. A few sharp enough that could cut or badly scratch! It was sealed in a plastic bag and shows no signs of being used so this defect must happen at the manufactures level. I added a video showing how easily it snags a cotton ball, cotton pad and even a beanie. Please thoroughly check your item before giving it to your pup! I was so excited to put some smashed banana on this thing and give it to my guy and thank god I checked it first! I’m going to return it and see if a 2nd one is any better and I’ll update if it is or isn’t. Also, the super sharp spots were very hard to photograph which is why I added the video.

good purchase
Color: Red Nylon Yellow Hotdog
This thing is great for hi anxiety dogs and dogs that ned to have something to do or to chew. It will take them a while to get through to it. I was told that it was indestructible but I knew if there was a dog that could do it, it would be mine, and she did. But it took her some time. But she loves it and it keeps her busy.

Cute and durable!
Color: Red, Color: Red
My dog absolutely loves this toy! I'm not sure why people are complaining it's too hard, it's a nylon dog chew toy, it's supposed to be hard. I love the little holes in the lattice top I can stuff with treats. It keeps my very (VERY) active dog busy for a long time. I would definitely recommend this if you have a power chewer. It's also super cute, I just love to see him tote around a piece of pie.
